Astronomy program Tuesday at PWLC

Join Dr. Nandini Banerji of Minnesota State Community and Technical College at the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center for a fascinating look at astronomy, the cosmos and our understanding of the stars on Tuesday, May 20 at 8 p.m.

Banerji will discuss the cosmic perspective and our local address in relationship with the cosmic dimensions and the relevance of the universal laws of physics — how light, matter and energy interactions have widened our viewing of the universe and our understanding of it.

Immediately following the indoor presentation, participants will move outdoors to view the night sky through a variety of telescopes and astronomical binoculars. Participants are welcome to bring their own telescopes as well.

This program is free and open to the public, will be held rain or shine (moon) and no reservations are needed. For more information, call (218) 736-0938, or visit our website, www.fws.midwest/pwlc.

Butler Twp. to celebrate 125 years

Butler Township, located in northeast Otter Tail County, will celebrate its 125th year of existence on Saturday, July 26 at the Holy Cross Church grounds in Butler. The one-day event will start with a picnic-style lunch at noon.

The day will be filled with old-fashioned children’s games, horseshoe tournament, buggy rides, old-time photo taking and a parade. Music will be provided all day by local musical talents featuring jazz, bluegrass, country-western, and rock 'n roll. Butler history will come to life through a display of old pictures and antique machinery exhibits. The day will conclude with a show of fireworks at dusk.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
