Otters overcome Spartans; Arrows win conference

The Rocori Spartans left 10 runners on base as a strong defensive effort carried the Fergus Falls Otters to a 2-1 victory over Rocori.

The Spartans were guilty of four errors, including two in the third inning when the Otters pushed both of their runs across.

Devon Clark and Jana Thole both reached on errors and Erika Magnusson collected an RBI-single in the third.

“It really came down to a mental game.” said Fergus Falls head coach Renee Erickson, who saw her team end the regular season with a 10-8 record.

Brittany Gagner went 2-for-3 in the victory,

Stacy Svihel led the Spartans with two safeties.

Aly Erickson out-dueled Saide Pfannenstein. Erickson fanned two and walked two. Pfannenstein struck out three.

Erin Beck collected the game-winning hit in the eighth inning as the Otter JV team won 3-2.

The Otters will enter Section 8AA tournament play next week.

ASHBY— The Ashby Lady Arrow fastpitch team clinched the Pheasant Conference title for the second year in a row with their victory against C-A-H-N.

Senior Danielle Holcomb picked up her 11th win of the season as she led the Arrows to their second Conference title in as many years. Holcomb only surrendered three hits on the day. At the plate

Ashby was led at the plate by Amanda Johnson who went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBIs.

“I have to acknowledge our senior captain Danielle Holcomb and her pitching performance all season,” said Ashby head coach Joey Andreasen. “She is a hard worker and an excellent leader and her determination has led to our success this season. Second, I;m equally as proud of every player on the team. Everyone always played as a team and never gave up.”

BERTHA — The Otter Tail Central Bulldogs rallied in the seventh inning to top Bertha-Hewitt in the final regular season game.

Carmen Malmstrom pitched a complete game for the Bulldogs.

“This was a good way to wrap up the regular season,” said head coach Eric Olson. The Bulldogs finished the regular season with a record of 18-0 overall and will start the postseason with a game in Battle Lake on Tuesday.

Sam Hanson fanned 19 in leading the Comets to a pair of road victories.

Hanson went 4-for-5 with three ribbies in their win over CGB. Sophia Undseth went 3-for-4 and scored three runs. Joy Sunde and Bekka Abel combined for four hits and four ribbies.

Undseth and Hanson both went 4-for-4 and Liz Listor drove in two runs against Ortonville. Undseth scored three times. Hanson and Listor both drove in two runs.

PERHAM — Kim Brill went 1-for-3 with a double, a stolen base and a walk but the Moorhead Spuds were too strong for the Yellowjackets. Abbi Paulseth also had a good night at the plate going 1-for-2 with a triple, two runs scored, and two walks. Sara Formanek, Erin Peterson, and Amanda Snyder also chipped in with one hit apiece.
