WADENA — Katlin Sillerud and Amy Field both collected a pair of hits Friday as the Pelican Rapids Vikings posted a 5-2 fastpitch victory over Wadena-Deer Creek.
The Vikes scored all five of their runs in the fifth. Josey Soberg doubled and Katie Pfiefle, Field and Ann Ouren all singled. Hard hit balls by Emma Strand, Aly Colosky and Sillerud resulted in three Wolverine errors and brought home the inning’s final two runs.
The game ended with a defensive gem as Sillerud snagged a line drive up the middle and doubled up Wadena-Deer Creek’s baserunner at third.
Sillerud surrendered five hits and one walk while striking out eight.
The Vikings open section play Tuesday.
Field, Kayle Fitzgerald and Kassey Arntson came up with Pelican’s only hits in a 2-0 loss to Hawley Thursday night.
Soberg fanned three and did not walk a batter in taking the loss.
