Friends of the PWLC raise funds

Published Friday, May 30, 2008

More than 100 friends and supporters of the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center attended the Friends of the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center’s Annual Fundraising Banquet on Tuesday evening.

The purpose of the event was to raise funds to construct a trail for handicap accessibility at the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center so everyone can enjoy the beauty of the Center’s wetlands and prairies. The event raised more than $27,000 of the estimated $35,000 needed to pave the trail, including a $10,000 Otter Tail Power Community Grant.

The trail will be completed in conjunction with the grand opening of the Center’s new education building this summer. Donations for the project can be sent to the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center.

A loon ice sculpture greeted patrons at the event. Local musicians Marjorie, Andy and Billy Eerdmans provided music, and renowned local artist Charles Beck presented an interesting talk on the inspiration for his art.

Auctioneer Cary Aasness conducted a lively auction featuring artwork from Charles Beck and Marion Otnes, a vacation, fishing trips and jewelry. Zen’s Creative Catering served a choice of walleye or quail.

The mission of the Friends of the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center’s is to support the United States Fish and Wildlife Service in public education.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
