Get ready for picnics, music

Published Saturday, May 31, 2008

Now that summer has arrived — Do you remember the enjoyable evenings we had last year at the Concerts in the Park? A series of 10 Thursdays are scheduled again this year from 5 to 7 p.m. at Roosevelt Park.

Food vendors will also be available so that you can enjoy a picnic supper for a small fee, too.

The Underwood Lions will serve their fabulously delicious pork chops again to help raise funds for the Senior Citizens Program on June 12 and the 26.

Music for these two dates include "Island Time" and the songs of David Stoddard, respectively. We'll be looking for you so, "You all come!'

Community Education is offering both the four-hour Refresher and the full eight-hour Driver Improvement Course in June.

The Refresher is scheduled for June 2 from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., at the public library and the full course will be held at ALC on the 3rd and 4th from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., both days required. Register in the Commuity Ed office and pay the appropriate fees ($18 and $20).

For more information, call 998-0544, Ext. 1600. Completion of the eight-hour class makes you eligible for a discount on your auto insurance for a three year period if you are a Minnesota resident, age 55 or older.

Those Senior Red Hat gals are going for salad again this month.

Participants are asked to meet at Bethlehem Lutheran Church at 11:30 a.m. on June 4 for a salad luncheon. Please call the senior office to register.

John Armstrong will be at the Senior Center on Wednesday, June 11 at 10:30 a.m. to provide free ear wax checks and hearing aid cleaning. Call 736-6842 for an appointment.

Let's close with a quotation from our Words of Wisdom Department: "You can't change the past but you can ruin the present by worrying about the future."

Dolores Saurer is a member of the Fergus Falls Senior Citizens program.

Comments

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
