OTC voters come out in full force
Published Wednesday, November 5, 2008
Otter Tail County certainly did not change its course of voting Republican.
County residents bucked the national trend by voting overwhelmingly in favor of Republican John McCain for president over Democrat Barack Obama. They essentially made a tight race for U.S. Senate even tighter by voting overwhelmingly for Republican Norm Coleman over Democrat Al Franken.
Voters kept the State House of Representatives’ balance of power in check by voting for Republicans Bud Nornes and Mark Murdock over Democrats Greg Stumbo and Tim Nieminen.
And they did so in full force.
While not the record 94 percent in 2004, in a year when national voter turnout was expected to reach a record — surpassing the 63 percent in 2004 — in a state which was pushing to have the highest voter turnout in the nation, Otter Tail County residents, with a whopping 92 percent turnout, still far surpassed all of them.
Clearly, our voter turnout is something to be proud of.
Based on this year’s election results, much of the rest of the country may disagree with the political views of Otter Tail County. But they certainly can’t question the passion of local residents in respecting their right to vote.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by BobWilliams (Bob Williams) on November 6, 2008 at 1:46 p.m. (Suggest removal)
