Published Thursday, October 9, 2008
Our tennis team season ended on Tuesday at Courts Plus in Fargo .
The #4 seeded Knights defeated the #5 seeded Morris team 6-1 on Monday, advancing us to the semifinal match against top ranked Osakis. Osakis defeated the Knights 7-0 and went on to become the Sub-section champion who will face Staples-Motley next week for the section title.
The girls played some great indoor tennis in this tournament. The Knights won all their singles matches in straight sets over Morris and two of their doubles matches. #1 doubles, lost a 3-set match before falling to Sam Buro and Mishayla Schriefels 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.

The Osakis Match was a tough match as expected. We had some great singles matches against Osakis which shows some strong improvement with our players. It was great to see the girls play this way, and it makes me excited for next season.
We had a great #2 singles battle by Sarah Wagner who took Britta Thornbloom to a 1st set tiebreaker 7-6 (13-11) and a great close 2nd set 7-5 before her loss to Britta.
Sarah really held her ground and stayed in each point as long as she could. She could have just as easily won the first set, I think some fatigue settled in in her 2nd set. What a great effort.
#1 singles, Mikayla Paulson was def. by Rachael Grundman 6-3, 6-1. Grundman is the #1 seed in the subsection and Mikayla really held her ground with her also. They’ve gone head to head five times now this season.
#3 singles, Nicole Anderson was defeated in a great 3-set match by Brianne Giesler 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-0. A great effort by Anderson winning her first set in a tiebreaker.
#4 singles, Kelley Haberer was defeated by Tonya Hetland 6-2, 7-6 (2-7). Kelley put in a great come-back effort in her 2nd set bringing it all the way to a tiebreaker 7-2 before her loss.
Our doubles losses were in straight sets. Osakis is just a good, strong all-around team with lots of depth and they proved that today with all 3 of their doubles teams.
#1 doubles, Hope Krusemark and Emma Byrne were defeated by Kelsey Giesler and Kiera zimmel 6-1, 6-2.
#2 doubles, Amanda Hanson & Becky Rauchbauer were defeated by Mikayla Fagen and Kayla Maus 6-1, 6-3.
#3 doubles, Sarah Frisch and Emily Frykman were def. by Britteny Wolterstorff and Sabrina Zimmel 6-0, 6-0.
