Published 12:00 p.m., September 3, 2008
The Fergus Falls girls tennis team dropped two matches at the Bemidji Triangular. The Otters lost the first round 7-0 to Bemidji.
Singles:
1) Brittany Thompson (B) def. Ashley Mergens (FF) 6-2, 6-1.
2) Cortne Solberg (B) def. Cristina Masten (FF) 6-0, 6-0.
3) Kenzie Kane (B) def. Lizzy Wanek (FF) 6-0, 6-1.
4) Jessica Solberg (B) def. Lindsey Kimball (FF) 7-5, 7-5.
Doubles:
1) Jamie Hoffman & Suzann Nordquist (B) def. Amanda Breen & Kaylar Neumann (FF) 6-1, 6-1.
2) Alyssa Johnson & Megan Huseby (B) def. Katie Schoeneck & Susie Schoeneck (FF) 6-0, 6-1.
3) Kelsey Bretschneider & Jenna Nei (B) def. Sydney Schultz & Megan Viaene (FF) 6-2, 6-1.
“You take something from every match,” said Coach Hal Johnson, “and though a win or two would be nice, our girls saw first-hand the importance of footwork, placement, and all the fundamentals of tennis. Bemidji has the strength to make you pay for weak shots and being out of position, and if our girls take that lesson to heart, it was well worth the trip.”
In the second round Moorhead defeated Fergus Falls 4-3.
Singles:
1) Stephanie Weaver (M) def Ashley Mergens (FF) 6-3, 6-4.
2) Brenna Connell (M) def. Cristina Masten (FF) 6-2, 6-1.
3) Lizzy Wanek (FF) def. Lizzy Ross (M) 6-3, 6-3.
4) Lindsey Kimball (FF) def. Layne Meyer (M) 6-0, 6-1.
Doubles:
1) Amanda Breen & Kaylar Neumann (FF) def. Samantha Nelson & Cecelia Bonnitto (M) 6-3, 6-4.
2) Kirsten Hoaby & Molly Hagen (M) def. Katie Schoeneck & Susie Schoeneck (FF) 6-3, 7-6.
3) Tiffany Motis & Katie Schneider (M) def. Sydney Schultz & Megan Viaene 6-2, 6-2.
Coach Johnson said, “It was good to see Amanda and Kaylar working so well together to control their match. Lizzy and Lindsey both played smart tennis amid such gusty wind conditions, and never let up.”
The Otters’ next match is Thursday afternoon at 4:30 against Roccori at Broadway Courts here in Fergus Falls.
