Published Thursday, September 4, 2008
Three candidates are campaigning for the District 3 county commission post being vacated by the retiring Dennis Mosher. The district includes 16 townships in southwestern Otter Tail County, Fergus Falls Ward 1 Precinct 2 and the communities of Battle Lake, Dalton, Rothsay and Underwood.
Rick Gronner, Tom Lee and John Lindquist are the candidates. Voters on Sept. 9, during the primary election, will select the final two candidates from among the three. The general election will be held Nov. 4.
Gronner, of rural Underwood, completed his teaching career at Fergus Falls High School in 2007. He has been a member of the Sverdrup Township board since 1983.
With his township background, he said he has a good feel for issues affecting all of Otter Tail County. Gronner has worked firsthand with MPCA compliance, city annexation, wetlands migration and other issues.
Lee, who lives in rural Elizabeth, is a Humana Health Carte sales representative. He is chairman of the board of trustees for Lake Region Electric Cooperative Operation Roundup. Lee is involved with a wetlands restoration project near his home, working with the DNR, Soil Conservation Service and others.
Lindquist, of rural Dalton, is a retired dairy farmer but still operates a grain farm. He served over 20 years on the Dalton creamery board, including 12 years as president. He has been a member of the Dalton Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad for 36 years and served as chief for over 21 years.
He is a member of the Stalker Lake Sportsmen’s Club.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Post a comment
