Volleyball Roundup

Published Tuesday, September 9, 2008

The Ashby volleyball team held off a very motivated West Central Area squad to win 25-6, 25-23, and 25-18 Monday at home.

The Arrows made quick work of the Knights in game one, but WCA quickly regrouped, giving Ashby all they could handle.

“The match started in our favor, but the momentum changed in that second game,” said coach Brenda Johnson. “WCA made some good saves and took our offense out of rhythm. We were still able to overcome their runs and come out of the match with a 3-0 run.”

Deanna Martinson led the Arrows in service points with 17, adding two digs. Emily Johnson was right behind her with 12 points and eight digs.

Amanda Johnson had a solid night as well, with four points, two blocks, eight digs and 13 kills.

“ I thought our middles did a great job tonight blocking and hitting the ball,” Johnson said.

It was a disappointing evening for the Hillcrest Acadedmy volleyball team, as they lost in straight games to the visiting Chokio-Alberta-Herman Norcross Spartans, 25-13, 25-15 and 25-15.

“We’re still trying to figure out how to put it all together,” said coach Carrie Brue. “We need to play more of a complete game.”

The Comets’ attack was led by Andrea Christenson and Caitlyn Bowers, each with five kills.

Taylor Brue had eight set assists to lead the Comets in that category. Greta Tungseth had six set assists.

Sophia Undseth had eight serving points. The Comets travel to Rothsay Thursday night.
