Lifeguards scheduled for 2009 at Pebble Lake

Published 12:04 p.m., April 3, 2009

Fergus Falls Parks and Recreation is budgeting for lifeguards at Pebble Lake beach again in 2009.

The Fergus Falls Area Family YMCA will provide lifeguards for the beach as they did last year, said Rick Terway of Parks and Recreation. In 2008 lifeguards staffed the beach from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week, from June 16 to Aug. 16 at a cost of $20,500 to Parks and Recreation.

Terway said Thursday this year’s contract is the same as last years, with the exception of the staffing dates, which have been extended by a few days. The city council is scheduled to vote on the contract Monday.

Ok, just wondering can you even swim at Pebble? Yes, I know I have been Absent from FF for a while living in AK, but 2 years ago when I was home it looked awful. I plan on bringing my 4 year old home for my class reunion this summer and would like to take him if its cleaned up?

With a few tons of lead in the lake from the old trap shooting range, why wouldn't it be?

How much would a pool cost? If 2-3 months is equal to 20.5 K in lifeguard duty and one rickety slide we should look at something the kids will enjoy. At a pool an admission is taken paying off some of the expenses each year...

In the past, the City Street Dept has dumped winter sand cleanup on the Beach to buildup the sand base. As a result, the beach contains metal bristles from the street sweeper. They really can hurt, if you find one!

Will thongs be back in fashion?

Come on,1st there is talk of a community pool, and everyone poopoos it. Now we are talking of funding lifeguards at Pebble Lake, and again its being poopooed. Then when they did not have lifeguards at Pebble Lake, again the poopooing happened. Pebble Lake is there, people will swim with or without lifeguards. Is it not safer to have them there? A community pool would be nice, but, where's the funding? A location has always been a problem. How about the soon to be vacated High School location?
My point is, quit griping and start doing. We get what we get when there is little action. You want things to change then stop poopooing and start doing !!
