Suspect arrested following chase

One person was in custody Monday morning after a vehicle and foot pursuit that led Otter Tail County authorities from Henning to Wadena.
The chase began around 7:45 a.m. after Henning Police Chief Michael Helle attempted to stop a vehicle near the intersection of state highways 210 and 108. The driver of the vehicle, whose name has not been released, was a suspect in attempted break-ins at Pete's Amaco and Denny's Food-N-Sport Shop earlier Monday morning, Helle said.
Instead of stopping his vehicle, the suspect took off, leading authorities on a chase that ended about 45 minutes later in Wadena. From Henning, the suspect traveled toward Leaf Lake, then east to Deer Creek and into Wadena County, Helle said. At times the suspect took the Mazda he was driving off of the road into fields and wooded areas.
"If there's a back road, he took it," Helle said.
The suspect entered the city of Wadena on State Highway 29 and crashed his vehicle into a ditch at the intersection with 5th Street SW, according to Wadena Police Chief Bruce Uselman. From there the suspect crossed 5th Street, drove across two lawns and through an alley before driving the wrong way on Bryant Avenue, a one-way street.
The suspect left his vehicle on foot after crashing it into a curb, prompting authorities to cordon off the 300 to 400 blocks of Bryant Avenue. The suspect was arrested without incident after a police sergeant saw him leaving a residential garage, Uselman said.
Helle estimated the pursuit lasted for 40 miles. Police departments from Henning, New York Mills, Parkers Prairie and Wadena were involved in the incident, as were sheriff's deputies from Otter Tail and Wadena counties.
Helle said he expected the name of the suspect to be released Monday afternoon. Uselman said he believed the suspect was wanted on a Becker County warrant for burglary.
