Henning chase ends in Wadena
Published 12:00 p.m., August 4, 2009
One person is in jail after a vehicle chase that led Otter Tail County authorities from Henning to Wadena Monday morning.
The chase began around 7:45 a.m. after Henning Police Chief Michael Helle attempted to stop a vehicle near the intersection of state highways 210 and 108. The driver of the vehicle, Jason Everett Jensen, 23, of Dilworth, was a suspect in attempted break-ins at Pete’s Amaco and Denny’s Food-N-Sport Shop earlier Monday morning.
Instead of stopping his vehicle, Jensen took off, leading authorities on a chase that ended about 45 minutes later in Wadena. From Henning, Jensen traveled toward Leaf Lake, then east to Deer Creek and into Wadena County, Helle said. At times Jensen took the Mazda he was driving off of the road into fields and wooded areas.
“If there’s a back road, he took it,” Helle said.
Jensen entered the city of Wadena on State Highway 29 and crashed his vehicle into a ditch at the intersection with 5th Street SW, according to Wadena Police Chief Bruce Uselman. From there Jensen crossed 5th Street, drove across two lawns and through an alley before driving the wrong way on Bryant Avenue, a one-way street.
Jensen left his vehicle on foot after crashing it into a curb, prompting authorities to cordon off the 300 to 400 blocks of Bryant Avenue. He was arrested without incident after a police sergeant saw him leaving a residential garage, Uselman said.
Jensen was being held in the Otter Tail County Detention Facility Tuesday morning for fleeing a peace officer.
Helle estimated the pursuit lasted for 40 miles. Police departments from Henning, New York Mills, Parkers Prairie and Wadena were involved in the pursuit, as were sheriff's deputies from Otter Tail and Wadena counties.
