Girls basketball: Perham 72, UH 30

The latest victim of the Perham girls basketball team’s hot start to the 2009 season was Ulen-Hitterdal, who the Yellowjackets ran out of the gym to a tune of 72-30 Monday night in Perham.

This game was pretty much settled at half, as the Yellowjackets (3-0) took a 40-10 led into the locker rooms.

Katrina and Elisa Moenkedick were once again the catalysts for the Yellowjackets. The sisters combined for 34 points and 17 rebounds. Elisa also dishing out six assists while swiping five steals.

“We came out with a lot of energy and got after them early with our full court pressure defense to force turnovers,” Yellowjackets’ head coach John Gullingsrud said.

Perham attempted 73 shot, connecting on 31 of them for a field goal percentage of 43.

Ulen-Hitterdal committed 26 turnovers and were out rebounded 34-14 by the Yellowjackets.

Courtney Neset and Ciara Austinson each had nine points for Ulen-Hitterdal.

The Yellowjackets will look to continue their impressive start on Thursday when they travel to Heart O’Lakes Conference rival Breckenridge.

All three Perham victories have come against HOL opponents.
