The Pelican Rapids girls basketball team, which starts one senior, one junior, two sophomores and one freshman, fell 65-48 to Hawley Monday evening on the Pelican Rapids home court. Hawley held a 40-24 advantage at halftime.
The Viking girls fell to 1-2 on the season.
“Yes, we’re a young team, and our goal is to improve with each basketball game,” said Viking head coach Brian Korf. “We want to be prepared to play our best basketball come March, during tournament play.”
Senior center Kendra Coleman, who starred for the Vikings during the fall volleyball season, tallied for 11 points Pelican Rapids. Co-starter and freshman guard Madison Korf also had 11 points for the Vikings.
Junior starting guard Kristin Haugen had six points as did reserve forward Trudy Johnson. Starting sophomore guard MacKenzie Strand had five points and starting sophomore forward Erika Morgan had four points.
Reserves Maria Johnson and Michaela Gray had three and two points, respectively.
Coach Korf said that Trudy Johnson, Maria Johnson and Anna Skow-Anderson will be his top three players coming off the bench. His varsity team will be part of a girls-boys varsity doubleheader Friday evening at Barnesville.
