The Tonight Show host Conan O’Brien happily welcomed Fergus Falls comedian Chad Daniels to his show on Tuesday evening. Viewers in this area of west central Minnesota were happy that O’Brien specifically mentioned Fergus Falls before a national TV audience.
Daniels appeared at the end of the program, following guests Josh Brolin, an actor, and Tillie the Dog Artist, a 10-year-old terrier who appeared with dog owner Bowman Hastie. Tillie bites, scratches, licks and paws at her artistic creations. She gave a demonstration for O’Brien and the TV audience, just before Daniels made his Tonight Show appearance.
Daniels, looking relaxed, took center stage after being introduced by host O’Brien. As with many of the comic’s routines, his Tonight Show presentation included references to his family and his experiences in everyday life.
On Tuesday evening he referred to his wife, Jessica, and their children, Isaac, 10, and Olivia, 5. The 1993 Fergus Falls High School graduate kidded that Isaac asks a lot of questions abut everyday life.
“Seems like 5,000 questions a day,” kidded Daniels.
O’Brien graciously helped promote Daniels’ career by saying the Fergus Falls native will appear New Year’s Eve at JD’s Comedy Cafe in Milwaukee, Wis. After his presentation, Daniels shook hands with O’Brien, actor Brolin and the owner of Tillie the Dog Artist.
Daniels and the other guests were part of the TV taping of the Tonight Show that started at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Los Angeles time.
Daniels’ appearance on The Tonight Show came about through his connection with O’Brien’s booking agent, J.P. Buck, who Daniels has known for seven years. In September, while in Los Angeles, Daniels met with Buck who taped a four to five minute presentation by Daniels, called a “set” in professional terms. Buck said he’d look at the tape and get back to Daniels.
Later, Buck told Daniels it was a go for The Tonight Show. They settled for a guest appearance by Daniels on Tuesday, Dec. 8.
The Fergus Falls comedian, over the years, has performed at colleges, theaters and comedy clubs all around the country. Daniels bills himself as, “someone who grew up on the serene streets of Fergus Falls.”

Great job Chad! Excellant performance! I'm very happy to have given you your very first job....the 7th Ave Daily Journal route. I think they definately could've done without Tillie the Dog.
