Relay for Life raises $85,000

Published 08:19 a.m., July 3, 2009

Residents from around the region came together for June’s Otter Tail West Relay for Life to raise $85,000 in funds for the American Cancer Society and show tribute to those who have fought the disease.

Those who participated in the event formed teams, many of which were formed in honor of someone who has lost their life to cancer.

But for many teams, there wasn’t just one person to walk for. In most cases, each person walking had a few stories to tell of how the disease had affected close friends and family members.

Last year, the event raised $114,000, according to Katie Kivver with the American Cancer Society. The goal for this year’s event was $125,000.

Otter Tail West Relay for Life events brought in $85,000 this year for the American Cancer Society, short $40,000 of the organization’s goal.

Kivver said that while the numbers are down, the organization is still thrilled with the amount that was raised.

Kivver also said that the $85,000 could still change considering donations are still rolling in. The organization continues to be open to donations for the event.

Donations for Relay for Life are still being accepted and can be sent to Bremer Bank.
