Trail bid awarded
Published 03:31 p.m., July 7, 2009
City officials have completed the bidding process for a connecting path between the Central Lakes Trail and Fergus Falls trails.
On Monday the city council approved awarding the project to Alexandria-based Central Specialties, Inc., which had the lowest bid at $148,360. The money will fund a 14-foot wide bituminous trail stretching from the Central Lakes Trail to Pebble Lake Road on the north side of State Highway 210.
A pre-construction meeting will be held in the next 10 to 14 days, said City Engineer Dan Edwards, with work to begin yet this summer. A Federal Transportation Enhancement grant will fund 80 percent of the construction cost, with municipal state aid and private dollars available to cover the rest. City staff are still determining whether the remaining federal dollars could be used on some other part of the project. They will also need to decide which funding source will cover upwards of $33,000 in engineering and administrative costs.

I attended that meeting and don't believe any local businesses bid on this.

Well in that case, their loss, I guess. It's too bad that no one locally participated.

the only local paving crew we have in fergus falls is basically mark-sand-and gravel. The city of fergus really does not like the work that they do so i have heard that sometimes they will not let mark even bid od take his bids for work. Plus it seems that mark-sand-and gravel will also pass on work in fergus. But i do not know why.
