Published 12:00 p.m., June 15, 2009

A marijuana grow operation may be to blame for a fire that damaged a Fergus Falls home Friday afternoon.

A residence at 504 West Spruce was heavily damaged by the fire, which was reported shortly before noon. According to police, after the fire was extinguished, authorities located marijuana plants near a heat lamp in a second level crawl space. After obtaining a search warrant, police seized marijuana plants, scales and paraphernalia, as well as a large amount of cash. Daniel Harry Gail, 48, the resident of the house, was arrested; a fifth degree controlled substance charge is pending with the Otter Tail County Attorney’s Office.
