Two killed in weekend car accidents

Two people were killed in separate car accidents Sunday and Monday.

Richard L. Smith, a 24-year-old from Middle River, Minn., was killed in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 59 Sunday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 1:25 p.m. when Smith's southbound Chevy pickup crossed the center line and hit a semi head-on, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The driver of the semi, David Bjorgo, 53, of Pelican Rapids, did not suffer any apparent injury, reported the State Patrol.

The accident occurred about three miles north of Fergus Falls near milepost 225.

One person was killed early Monday in an accident near the border between Otter Tail and Becker counties.

The victim was traveling near Becker County Road 49 and 100th Street when the accident occurred around 5:45 a.m. County Road 49 turns into Otter Tail County Highway 75.

Early reports indicate the driver went off a curve and was pronounced dead at the scene. Visit this site for updates throughout the day.
