Woman to serve time for theft
Published 11:09 a.m., June 22, 2009
A Perham woman accused of stealing more than $100,000 from her employer will spend 20 days in jail.
Ruth Ann Ramsay, 51, pleaded guilty to felony theft June 10 as part of a plea agreement established last year. Two other theft charges were dropped as a condition of the agreement.
According to a complaint, Ramsay allegedly embezzled money from the Perham Eye Clinic and its Long Prairie and Wadena branches over a 10-year period beginning in 1997. Ramsay, who was employed as the bookkeeper, endorsed client checks and kept the money, the complaint states. She was also accused of swiping her personal credit card through the clinic’s credit card reader and assigning cash credits to her account.
Ramsay has paid approximately $125,100 in restitution; management with the clinic are expected to ask for more money to cover investigation expenses at a July sentencing hearing.
Ramsay requested to serve her jail time prior to the hearing.
