Dalton hosts Summerfest this weekend

The Dalton Summer Festival returns this weekend with events designed for all ages.

Friday’s festivities begin with an all-you-can-eat walleye dinner at the Dalton Cafe from 4 to 8 p.m. Doors open for beach bingo at the Dalton Community Center at 6 p.m., with play to begin at 7 p.m. The bingo event will include rootbeer floats, bars and other refreshments. Attendees will also have the opportunity to win door prizes and meat bundles for grilling from JC’s Grocery.

Country music will follow from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the Hideout Saloon and Grill.

Saturday’s events begin with a pancake and sausage feed sponsored by Dalton Gopher 4-H and held at the Dalton Community Center from 7 to 11 a.m.

An all-city rummage sale will be held all day, as will the city’s 15th annual softball tournament. Anyone wishing to participate in the tournament may contact Steve Nelson at 218-739-5299 for more information.

A Pheasants Forever shoot is also scheduled for all day. Call 218-589-8679 for shooting times.

Registration for the 5th Annual Golf Scramble at Stalker Lake Golf Course will begin at 10 a.m., with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m.

The Lake Region Pioneer Threshermen’s Association (LRPTA) will host activities throughout the day at the threshing grounds. The weigh-in for the Blue Ox Tractor Pull is scheduled for 10 a.m.; the pulling will begin at noon.

Members of the LRPTA will offer train rides from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the threshing grounds. The rides are free but a freewill donation is suggested.

Kids and adults may participate in hayrides, black powder shooting, craft-making and more at the “Preserve the Tradition” Museum of Natural History, located at 10788 285th Ave., Dalton. Activities are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are sponsored by the museum and Grant County 4-H. Cost is $10 for attendees age 13 and over, $5 for kids 12 and under.

Dalton firefighters will host a pork supper from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Dalton Community Center. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet firefighters and tour the fire hall. Hot dogs will be available for children, as will a jumping fun house. A free will donation will be offered.

Fireworks will begin at dusk at the ballpark, sponsored by the Dalton Community Club. The fireworks are one of several Summer Festival events organized by club members.

A street dance at the Hideout Saloon and Grill with music by Megan Johnson and Blackbird will begin at 9 p.m. and run through 1 a.m.

The Marty Edwards Memorial Shoot will begin at 8 a.m. Sunday at the “Preserve the Tradition” Museum of Natural History and run through 3 p.m. The event will feature 25 life-size archery targets, with proceeds to benefit the 4-H archery program. Cost is $5 for youth age 12 and under, $12 per adult.

Farmers State Bank of Underwood/Dalton will host a meatball dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dalton Community Center.

Sounds like a great schedule of events compared to many other communities. Hope it goes well. Good to see the small community spirit alive and well. Good work and good luck!!!
