Perham home destroyed by fire

Published 10:20 a.m., June 29, 2009

A rural Perham residence was completely destroyed by a fire in the early morning hours of Monday.

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, Perham Police and Perham Fire and Ambulance were called at 1:06 a.m. to 47207 Minnesota Street by the owner Dale Schmidt.

No one was injured in the fire. The Schmidt family was woken up by smoke alarms and left the house after they determined that it was on fire, according to an Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office report.

When emergency personnel arrived, the house was completely engulfed in flames. The New York Mills and Dent Fire Departments were called for additional assistance, according to the report.

The fire departments were unable to extinguish the fire before the house was destroyed. Two vehicles were also destroyed that were located either in or beside the garage, according to the report.

The cause of the fire is currently undetermined, but is under investigation, according to the report.
