What is this?
Act to prevent further dog abuse
Published 12:00 p.m., March 26, 2009
The verdict is in. Bauck not guilty on two felony animal cruelty charges and guilty of four misdemeanor charges: three counts of torture and one count of animal cruelty.
She cried and was heard to mutter, "Thank you, Jesus".
I didn't realize our Lord advocated torture and cruelty upon animals.
But then what do I know, I just know what I read in His word. Proverbs 12:10
Good grief, this woman and her family and every business like hers in this state has got to come under responsible regulation since they cannot behave themselves. Call them greedy, lazy, overworked, understaffed, no common sense or just plain stupid. It doesn't matter.
We need a LAW! and a law --- S.F.7 is struggling to be heard in our Senate as we speak. Please, everyone out there that cares, contact your Senator and Animal Folks Minnesota and see what you can do to get this bill passed this year! www.animalfolksmn.org or Animal Folks MN., 1043 Grand Avenue, #115, St. Paul, MN. 55105

She was found not guilty by our neighbors the jurors. I get my hackles just as high as yours. Who wouldn't want to hang anyone for treating animals cruely. There is more to the story than we all know. Who cares who she thanked. Are you for animal treatment or God bashing here.

I WAS ONE OF THE JURORS IN THIS CASE........YOU DO NOT KNOW ALL THE FACTS...WE WOULD HAVE FOUND HER GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS HAD ALL THE EVIDENCE BEEN ABLE TO BE USED TO CONVICT HER. SHE, AS I BELIEVE, DOCTORED MEDICAL RECORDS SO THAT WE WERE UNABLE TO PROVE BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT THAT SHE WAS GUILTY. HER OPERATION NEEDS TO BE STOPPED. THE DIFFICULT PART IS THAT REGULATIONS AND LAWS ARE NOT STRICT ENOUGH FOR THESE PUPPY MILLS. THOSE ANIMALS WERE BADLY ABUSED BY HER AND HER FAMILY. I AM STILL HAVING A HARD TIME TRYING TO SLEEP FROM ALL THE PICTURES AND VIDEOS THAT WE SAW AS JURORS. PASS THE WORD AROUND......NO BUYERS...NO SELLING OF PUPPIES. AND JASON SMITH, THE UNDERCOVER PERSON WHO GOT THE PICTURES SHOULD BE THANKED FOR ALL HE DOES TO HELP THESE INNOCENT ANIMALS. HE WAS NOT THE ONE AT FAULT. HOPEFULLY SHE WILL GET SOME TIME AND A FINE OUT OF THIS. AND THEY WILL CONTINUE TO INVESTIGATE HER THROUGH THE HUMAINE SOCIETY AND THE USDA. THIS ISNT THE FIRST TIME FOR HER AND BY THE LOOKS OF HER PAST, IT WONT BE THE LAST. DO NOT EVER BUY PUPPIES FROM HER OR PET STORES.

waterlily. Fix your caps lock key. Not only is typing in all caps rude, it looks really stupid...and your message gets lost.

Sadly, Apollyon, Rep. Mark Murdock is my Rep. and he has shown no interest in House Bill 253 which is the companion Bill to Senate Bill 7. This IS the Puppy/Kitten Mill Bill with TEETH in it authored by Representative Tillberry and Senator Betzold, respectively. In fact, I have come away in my correspondence with him having the notion that he does not understand there is a problem at all.
Like I mentioned, go to www.animalfolks.com to find out about this very SOLID law that is trying to get passed---going on 4 years now, I understand and what you can do. It got tabled once again this year, as of last Friday, and now will not be heard again until next year's legislative session. By the way, Hannahsmary, this law will help you as a reputable dog breeder because it will 'weed out' all the bad breeders like Bauck. I am friends with several good breeders and they champion this bill. They, like you, care about their animals. I work at an animal shelter in DL, MN and have seen the results of many of Bauck's breeding practices come through our doors as well as dealt with the legacy of a former employee of hers that she 'taught' how to be a breeder and several of his animals that were seized due to cruelty. It is heart-wrenching and no, Apollyon, there is NOTHING that can be done until we get the above law passed next year. Believe me, a hundred people or more have tried. Nancy Stokes

Why is it that the State of Minnesota just don't care about our fellow animals? I don't care what anyone says, dogs are not like cows or pigs, they are companion animals. It is a proven fact that dogs and cats aide in depresion and rehabilitation. Someone needs to educate the Legislators! We need to stick together and every person can make some kind of a difference, does anyone else agree?

Yes, We agree Johann, thank you, legislators, prosecutors, the sheriff, and judges in Otter Tail County and other counties, need education on this issue and what their responsibilites are. Its the 2009 not 1909.
There must be NONE of the usual GAME PlAYING when it comes to issues of morality and justice.
WE MUST DO OUR PART BY VOTE AND WORD TO END THEIR COMFUSION AND REMIND THEM OF THEIR DUTY TO PROTECT VS. GET VOTES AND ELECTION FUNDING BUY THEIR LEGISLATIVE VOTE OR NON-VOTE
(THIS IS DIRTY & EXTREMELY CORRUPT)
lAW MAKERS HAVE FAILED TO PROTECT AGAIN THIS YEAR, SO PLEASE CONTACT THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AND ASK THEM TO PUT IN FORCE. NOW, THE SAME LAW SHERBURNE COUNTY HAS TO CONTROL LARGE CRUELY BY DOG AND CAT BREEDERS.
Thank you for your comment Nancy.
Where did my comment go ?!
I request it be put back.

You could make a concerned statement to the judge of the Bauck dog breeder cruelty and torture trial too.
One way is to show up at Baucks sentencing.
Take some media with you also. Give them copies of the Mn Statues on animal abuse & sentencing guidelines to write about. Ask them to write about the sentence she got compared to the actual law.

Mark Nelson, I wish everyone who comments, reads and is involved one way or another would take action like this. Sad thing is, most will not! I tried and tried to get people to go sit through the trial with me and support these abuse, neglected, tortured and overworked animals, only a few were there every single day like me. There was no way I was going to not be able to watch her lie on the stand and glare at her because I KNEW she was lieing. She didn't care though. Just the same, she doesn't care about her animals either! And what is up with her being allowed to continuously go back to "Pick of the Litter" and abuse, neglect, torture and overwork these animals some more. There is just no justice. The rest of her family should be prosecuted for letting it go on! Oh, and where did the field full of horses and babies go??!!!

johann, there will be justice. Many, many prayers have gone up and reached our Lord but it will be His way and in His time. In the meantime, we must work to educate our neighbors and vote in legislators who care about this issue and we MUST get SF7/H253 passed next year. Please work with us at Animal Folks Minnesota to get this done.
By the way, I want to thank the Journal for covering this story. There was not ONE WORD about it in the Perham/New York Mills paper (surprise, surprise!) or the Detroit Lakes paper.
SHAMEFUL!!!!!

Ive been watching this trial from afar in Arizona, and was just amazed at how this whole thing was handled, you have a woman who on video is abusing animal/already one charge of cruelty/did time/was on work release commitiing more acts and no one in this town/or any town could step up and remove the dogs....you know why???? because breeding dogs/cats for profit is legal because dogs in mills are considered livestock and don't fall under "normal" animal cruelty laws, everyone everywhere needs to stop voicing their opinion amongst themselves and voice your opinion to all you elected officials, if everyone did that there could be change, you are all registered voters, that means you are a voting block and you are powerful at election time. Dont wait for everyone else to do it, step up and be the voice of Kathy Bauchs dogs, put Ottertail on the map for caring about animals, because right now you are on the map for being a place that condones animal cruelty.

Oh, you are so right, Milldogmommyforchange!!! If only everyone who feels the way we do had the guts to represent the animals, we could make a change! If I didn't have to work, my life would be dedicated to this. Thank you for being open and honest, all the way from Arizona! How did you come across the Bauck case?

Hi Johann, Im a animal advocate in Az with my main focus on breeder stock dogs in puppy mills, Im also a animal rescue volunteer/foster mom who fosters puppy mill survivors, Ive been working this case from afar since the video first came out, and as an advocate I pay attention to cases all over the globe, and this case really angered me,(the video of her "dipping" the dogs made my head just blow through the roof of my office. I contacted all your elected officials/judge/pros attorneys/local HSUS, Animal Folks MN, and local animal advocates, I also sponsored a petition of over 1500 signatures from all over the US and 17 different countries, and am going to contact Heather Bramborg to see if the petition can be entered into evidense at time of sentencing. This was a worldwide case, but cases like this go on all over because animal cruelty laws dont pertain to mill dogs, because they are livestock, I also live in an area where local officials do NOT see puppy mills or irresponsible backyard breeding as important, but Im working on it daily. try to rally your community into being their voice, devolp a humane voting block, and when officials come up for election, if they dont act for animals DONT vote for them.

I will be in court April 24 to watch Ms. Baucks sentencing. I really wish the punishment would fit the crime. I don't feel remorse for MS Bauck, She has made a good income on decent breeders for far too long. I was one of those breeders that helped Ms. Bauck with a health problem years ago. And sold my puppies to her, in good faith that they would go to good homes. I was so very wrong to have trusted her. I will enjoy looking her in the eyes as hopefully enough restrictions are placed on her business that she will not be able to keep the business profitable.
