Fire destroys rural home
Published 12:00 p.m., May 6, 2009
An emotional Ann Moore arrived at her home Monday morning to discover it was engulfed in flames.
A call reporting a fire north of Dalton was made around 8:45 a.m. Monday to the Otter Tail County Sherriff’s Office.
Fire departments from Dalton, Underwood and Fergus Falls as well as the Otter Tail County Sherriff’s Office responded to the scene at 27502 180th St.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, said Dalton Fire Chief Eric Mounts.
No one was home when the fire started, according to Dalton Assistant Chief Philip Isaacson.
When Isaacson, who was the second vehicle to arrive at the scene, first witnessed the situation, flames had taken over, causing the roof to fully collapse.
Moore arrived at her home during the fire after receiving a call at Underwood School, where she works.
Her husband, Kelly Moore, later arrived at the site of his home.
“I’m just glad the kids weren’t home,” Ann said.
The Moore family has been in the home for eight years.
“We’ll be OK” Ann said. “We’ve got a lot of family and friends.”
Ann and Kelly Moore were later joined at the scene by their children, fellow family members and friends.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
A fund for the Kelly and Ann Moore family has been set up at Farmers State Bank in Underwood. Donations can be dropped off on site or sent to Farmers State Bank, PO Box 247, Underwood MN 56586.

As I left the restaurant today I was confronted by a neatly dressed woman selling the "Real Change" newspaper. I think she buys them for 35 cents and sells them for a buck. She keeps the difference. She's pleasant, she's not "in your face", she could easily be a friend. I gave her a $10 and said keep the paper. She didn't thank me...said, "Are you sure?" I said, "yes, I'm sure" and walked away.
And the burned out family gets "thoughts and prayers". How concerned are you?

A fire has to be one of the most devastating things to happen to a nice family like this. Prayers were answered before they were uttered when nobody was home to be injured or worse. Now they will need all the thoughts, prayers, and monetary donations that they are sure to get from the close-knit communities where they work and send their children to school.

Mai - I made my monetary donation as well but I didn't feel the need to flaunt it like you do. My thoughts and prayers are still with you Kelly and Ann!

Dear Concerned,
Hardly flaunting. We're both anonymous with hometowns unknown. Flauting would be accurate if I were not anonymous and using my hometown in my comment.
