Former FFHS principal removed
Published 06:00 a.m., May 10, 2009
A former Fergus Falls High School principal who was once suspended for inappropriate actions is now in hot water for a similar offense in Princeton, Minn.
Princeton School District Superintendent Mark Sleeper has been removed from his position as superintendent and placed on a paid special assignment through June 30. On July 1 Sleeper will no longer be employed by the school district.
Sleeper worked in the Fergus Falls School District for 16 years — 12 years as the Fergus Falls High School principal.
He left Fergus Falls in 2001 to become principal at Princeton High School. His move came after a 15-day suspension for inappropriate and unprofessional behavior between himself and an employee under his supervision at the 2000 high school prom.
Members of the Princeton Board of Education believe Sleeper violated Princeton’s “Internet Acceptable Use and Safety” policy, according to the Princeton Union-Eagle newspaper.
The policy violation falls under a section that states that employees may not use a district Internet source to access, view, upload, download, store, print, post, receive, transmit or distribute pornography, explicit language, inappropriate material, or other items of hate or discrimination, the Union-Eagle reported.
Sleeper and his attorneys deny the allegations, the newspaper states.
The special assignment under which Sleeper is working includes drafting a school board levy referendum plan that will include facility needs, referendum time lines, responsibilities for board members and staff as well as preparing the ballot.
The work is to be finished by June 30, after which time Sleeper will enter into an unpaid leave of absence, the Union-Eagle reported.
“Generally speaking, it is not uncommon for school districts to enter into negotiated agreements with employees rather than seek termination,” acting superintendent Rick Lahn said in a written statement to the Union-Eagle.
