Skogen supports Bakk in 2010
Published 12:00 p.m., November 4, 2009
Next year is a critical year for the future of Minnesota as we elect a new governor. After careful consideration I am supporting State Sen. Tom Bakk from Cook, Minn., for the DFL endorsement for governor.
Tom grew up in Cook and still lives on Lake Vermilion. He graduated from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, with a degree in business. A carpenter by trade and a retired union leader, Tom was first elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1994 and then the Senate in 2002. Currently, he serves as chair of the Senate Tax Committee.
During his career in the Legislature, Tom has been a strong advocate for residents of rural communities throughout the state. He has a first-hand understanding of how important our local businesses, schools, and roads and bridges are to our way of life. A lifelong outdoorsman, Tom enjoys fishing, hunting, canoeing, and enjoying all Minnesota has to offer.
Tom is one of the strongest voices in the Legislature for all of us who choose to live and work outside the metropolitan area. He has based his campaign on the need for job creation, economic development, and getting people back to work, and I know our region would benefit from a leader with this focus.
Being a leader is not always easy, but Tom has built a solid reputation for being a problem solver who is tough but fair. As your state senator, I know that residents in our communities respect that in a leader. Minnesota has some significant challenges ahead and I know that Tom’s style is exactly what we need. He has the skills necessary to move our state forward.
Our next governor needs to have wisdom, compassion and courage. I have seen Tom display all of these attributes as I’ve watched him work on tough issues and bring together people of various philosophical approaches to find solutions to problems. This is exactly the type of leader we need to get Minnesota back on track.
