Children survive fatal crash
Published 11:54 a.m., November 10, 2009
The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office has identified the woman killed in a head-on collision northeast of Perham Monday morning.
Tristen Lee of Perham was killed when her 2003 Pontiac Montana collided with a Dodge Caravan shortly before 8:15 a.m. Lee was traveling north on County Highway 8 with two children, 4-year-old Mason Dolen and 8-month-old Sienna Dolen, according to the sheriff’s office. The children sustained non-fatal injuries and were transported to Perham Memorial Hospital.
The driver of the Dodge Caravan, Mary Swyter, 59, of Perham, sustained fractures to her ankles and was airlifted by helicopter to a Fargo hospital, according to authorities. Swyter was traveling south on County Highway 8 when the accident occurred near eastern Little Pine Lake access.
Perham firefighters had to remove one victim from a vehicle using the jaws of life, according to Fire Chief Mark Schmidt. Firefighters also assisted EMS personnel with back-boarding victims and setting up landing zones for LifeFlights arriving from Fargo, he said. Firefighters also assisted with directing traffic and removing debris from the roadway.
