U Motors closing Fergus store Dec. 1
Published 11:45 a.m., November 12, 2009
U Motors will close the doors of its Fergus Falls store before the start of the new year, according to management.
Due to a lack of business, a decision was made this week to close the Fergus Falls site Dec. 1, said Parts and Service Manager Mike Kolstad.
U Motors’ store in Fargo will remain open.
Eight employees will lose their jobs with the closure.
Plans to sell the business fell through, leaving the building, located along Interstate 94 near the Highway 210 exit, up for sale, according to Kolstad.
U Motors started out in Fergus Falls the summer of 2007 with the purchase of Edge Motorsports. A new 30,000 square-foot facility was built for the company shortly after the purchase.
The store featured a service department, along with a showroom featuring parts, apparel, motorcycles and other motor sport vehicles.
In the lead up to the closure, all apparel, including clothing and helmets, will be marked down to 50 percent off. Parts will be sold 15 percent over cost. Many of the motor sport vehicles have already been picked up by manufacturers.
