Property damage prompts arrest

Published 11:28 a.m., November 18, 2009

A 21-year-old man was arrested Tuesday night after damaging street signs and a squad car in Dalton.

Authorities were called to the 100 block of Central Avenue around 10:20 p.m. on a report of a physical altercation in which a woman was hitting a man in the street. According to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, the man, Andrew Robert Leabo, denied being assaulted and became uncooperative upon the arrival of authorities.

While investigating the incident, authorities determined Leabo had struck two street signs with his vehicle while en route to Central Avenue earlier that night. According to the sheriff’s office, Leabo was arrested for criminal damage to property for damaging the signs, as well as kicking out the rear window of a squad car.

A 20-year-old woman who witnessed the alleged assault was struck in the stomach with a vehicle door when she attempted to stop the altercation. Her condition was unavailable from the sheriff’s office Wednesday morning.

Otter Tail County authorities were assisted by Ashby Police and the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
