Transforming a generation

Published 02:05 p.m., November 20, 2009

Those involved with Lyghthouse Youth Ministries are doing what they can to transform a generation.

The second annual Lyght Night, sponsored by LYM, was intended to give youth an opportunity Wednesday evening to get together, have some fun and highlight the transforming power of God in their lives.

In the second year of the event, members of the youth group presented their peers and adults with a number of entertaining — and powerful — performances.

“I encourage them to use their gifts and talents and voices to say what they want to their generations,” said LYM youth pastor Jeremy Mueller.

That’s exactly what students did Wednesday night.

Whether it was through their acting in dramas, their voices in song or their abilities to spread a message with good humor and intent, the youth allowed their gifts to shine.

Each drama surrounded one central theme: What’s your story?

Members and leaders of the youth group presented those in attendance with their stories in a way that was sure to grab attention.

Written on cardboard signs, each student went in front of the audience with a statement illustrating how they once lived their life. When youth members flipped the sign over, a statement of how God transformed their life was revealed.

One drama performed depicted the “traps” many young adults — and people of all ages — fall into every day. Those traps included suicide, alcoholism and drug abuse, to name a few. The message to those in attendance was that there is a way out, even before the trap has gotten to the point of such severity.

Students also took the time to be a bit silly, singing along to a Christian rap show.

Yes, these are all _TRAPS_. Satan wants you to kill yourself. He wants you to drink yourself into a coma, and when you come to, he wants to to overdose on heroin.

You have no proof that you're right. Stop teaching your children that these fairy-tales are fact. F*@king pricks.
