Owner to keep dog after two bites
Published 05:04 p.m., November 24, 2009
A dog that protected its owner by biting an intruder will remain with its owner.
“Sadie,” a 6-year-old boxer/rottweiler mix, bit a man who pushed open the door and forced his way into the house in October, owner Donny Lannes, of Deer Creek, told the Otter Tail County Board Tuesday.
The bite was the second bite for Sadie. The first occurred in 2007 when children were teasing the dog, Lannes said.
Public Health Director Diane Thorson said she recommended a kennel and leash for the dog.
She noted that the dog was perhaps protecting the property and the second bite was more provoked than the first.
Lannes agreed, saying he could put the dog in another room when he answers the door and put it in a kennel or on a leash away from the residence’s entrances and property lines.

For once, a reasonable solution to a problem. Thank you
Diane Thorson for realizing that not all dogs that bite are bad. Children need to be taught not to tease animals and someone who breaks into a person's residence deserves what they get.
