Another wind turbine before board

The Otter Tail County Board is scheduled hear from a property owner regarding a proposed wind farm near Parkers Prairie.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in the Government Services Center.

The discussion on the wind farm, proposed by Prairie Wind Energy LLC, is scheduled to take place at 9:45 a.m. The company is proposing to build a 40-turbine wind energy project.

At 9:30 a.m., the board is also set to hear an update on the Minnesota Rural Counties Caucus, to which Otter Tail County belongs.

The board is scheduled to hold a Highway Committee meeting at 10:45 a.m. During Highway business at 11 a.m., the board is expected to hear a request to maintain a facility on the county highway 16 trail.

The board is expected to hear a request for approval for a final plat during Land and Resource at 11:20 a.m.

The county auditor is scheduled to discuss the county’s position as the pass-through for funding for West Central Dairy Profit Teams at 11:20 a.m.

The board is expected to hold a closed meeting from 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. to discuss labor negotiation strategies. The contracts for four unions are up for renewal at the end of 2009.

I didn't know much about wind turbines until I became involved in this project.

I know it's not local, but I think people need to get familiar with the the technology even if it isn't close to them.

If you are thinking of allowing wind turbines on your land, be sure you read the contract very carefully.
