Garcia sentenced for drug sales
Published 03:12 p.m., October 12, 2009
A Detroit Lakes man has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison for methamphetamine sales over the summer.
Johnny Michael Garcia, 30, was accused of selling more than 18 grams of methamphetamine to a law enforcement informant in June and July. According to a criminal complaint, the transactions occurred at a Fergus Falls gas station, a Grant County church and multiple locations in Detroit Lakes.
Garcia was arrested July 15 after authorities followed him to Stop-N-Go on North Union Avenue. According to the complaint, Garcia attempted to escape authorities by getting in a car with a driver he did not know. When confronted by police, Garcia initially presented false identification. He was arrested on outstanding warrants.
Authorities searching the vehicle located a bag of methamphamine weighing nearly 14 grams near the spot where Garcia had been seated, according to the complaint. An employee at Stop-N-Go reported finding a digital scale in a paper towel dispenser in a restroom Garcia had entered shortly before his arrest.
Garcia pleaded guilty to a first degree controlled substance crime in September and was sentenced Thursday to 86 months in prison.
