Volleyball: Brandon-Evansville 3, Battle Lake 2

Published 12:00 a.m., October 14, 2009

BATTLE LAKE— The Battlers gave Little Eight Conference power Brandon-Evansville a run for their money Tuesday night, but allowed the Chargers back in the match late for the victory (25-21, 25-14, 24-26, 15-25, 7-15).

After the Battlers jumping out to an early two set advantage, the Chargers came back to steal an extra point third set, which Battlers coach Jennifer Roisum believes led to her squads eventual loss.

“The third set loss was an emotional one for the girls, they thought they had them beat,” Roisum said. “Brandon-Evansville just chipped away in the end and capitalized on our mistakes.”

Nicole Rilla led the Battlers with 10 kills, while Cally Sterling had a team best 16 digs.

Carley Nelson finished the night with 18 assists and 12 digs for the Battlers.

Battle Lake (5-10-1) hosts Ashby next Monday.
