Friends of Friends Fighting Hunger event surpasses goal of $50,000
Published 07:01 a.m., February 5, 2010
After a change in venue and an event date change due to Mother Nature’s wintery blast on the 23rd of January, the 2nd annual event went off without a hitch. The evening began with a thank you to nearly 200 guests who were present to support the mission of fighting hunger in their community.
A goal of $50,000 was set for the 2010 event. Many thanks go out to the businesses and individuals who purchased event tickets, donated live and silent auction items and cash donations. “It’s incredible what a small group of friends can do,” said Georgia Pullen, a member of the Friends of Friends committee. Thanks to the generosity of the community the event surpassed $60,000.
The “Friends of Friends” is a group of caring individuals in Otter Tail County who have organized to make a difference in the lives of children and families who may be facing hunger. Their mission is to…
n raise awareness about hunger in Otter Tail County.
n raise funds to help ease hunger in our County.
n create a community within our community to help find a solution to hunger. Benefiting from the event will be the seven emergency food pantries in Otter Tail County. With food pantry usage up over 50% in some areas the timing is perfect. Proceeds will be distributed in March to make the most impact for our food shelves during the March Minnesota Food Share Campaign.
United Way of Otter Tail County serves as a partner and fiscal host to the “Friends of Friends.” United Way’s mission is to improve lives in Otter Tail County by mobilizing the caring powers in the community.
