Fergus wrestling winless in weekend tourney
Published 07:17 a.m., February 8, 2010
ANOKA — The Fergus Falls wrestling team went winless in three matches at the Anoka Tournament Saturday afternoon, losing to Cambridge-Isanti 41-25, Anoka 39-30 and St. Francis 48-25.
“These type of competitions are good to just get some mat time in,” Fergus Falls coach Mark Aho said. “I thought I guys did a good job overall. We just wanted to stay sharp for the rest of the season.”
Dan Revering at 160 pounds was the only Otter to finish the competition on perfect 3-0.
Colton Thorson — who registered his 150th career victory with a major decision against Anoka’s Mike Coleman — stayed unbeaten on the season with a 2-0 mark at the tournament, wrestling at 215 pounds and heavyweight divisions.
Alex Hensch did not lose in a pair of bouts at 145 pounds. He finished with a pin and a major decision.
Bryant Marquedant competed against C-I and St. Francis, finishing 2-0. Abbot Aho, who went 2-0 as well, set a new school record for takedowns in a single season, surpassing the old mark of 92. He currently has 106.
Tyler Giza also won both his matches, one of which came via forfeit.
Several of the regulars, including Thorson, Hensch and Giza, did not compete in the final match against St. Francis.
“We had a few guys that were dinged up, so we held them out (against St. Francis),” Aho said. “We also had a couple guys that had too many matches, so that’s were some of the forfeits came.”
