Kermit Zickur, 78, of rural Evansville, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at the Pelican Lake Health Care Center in Ashby.
He was born April 1, 1928, at Berlin, N.D., to Frank and Tessie (Class) Zickur. As a young boy he moved with his family to a farm in Eagle Lake Township, rural Battle Lake. He attended the Kron School and the Melby School. He was confirmed June 13, 1943, by Rev. Anton Chell at Immanuel Evangelical Church in Evansville.
Prior to his military service he worked for Clarence Elmer in the Evansville Hatchery. From 1946 to 1948 he served in the U.S. Marine Corp. His service included the Asiatic-Pacific area where he participated in the occupation of Japan.
He returned to Evansville and worked for the Elmer Feed Mill. On Jan. 31, 1953, he married Gloria Johnson at the Erdahl Lutheran Church in Erdahl. They lived their entire married life on the family farm in Lund Township. Kermit farmed for many years and then worked for Ray Elmer from 1980 to 1993 in the Feed Mill in Evansville.
He was a former member of the Ashby Credit Union, was presently serving on the Lund Township Board, was a member of Christina Lake Lutheran Church where he had served many terms on the church board and was sexton of the cemetery. He enjoyed fishing, time at the lake, duck hunting, horses and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria; sons, Terry Zickur and Tony (Caroline) Zickur, both of Evansville; daughters, Julie (Ken) Raap of Henning, and Jaynne (David) Schouweiler of Alexandria; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles (Shirley) Zickur of Alexandria.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers: Kenneth, Frank, Jr. and Dale.
Visitation: Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Evansville and one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 1 p.m. Monday at Christina Lake Lutheran Church, rural Melby
