Dorothy Dorn

Dorothy Mae Dorn, 89, of Fergus Falls, died peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls.

She was born on Jan. 7, 1917, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fergus Falls to parents of Norwegian ancestry, George and Eleanor (Anderson) Knoff, and was baptized and confirmed at First English Lutheran Church. She grew up and attended school in Fergus Falls. She graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1935 and attended Carleton College in Northfield.

Dorothy and Russell Dorn from Minneapolis were married on Nov. 23, 1940. They moved to Fergus Falls in 1946 and owned and operated Dorn Hardware. In 1970 they moved to Minneapolis where her husband worked for the right-of-way department of Hennepin County. Russell died in 1995 and Dorothy relocated to Fergus Falls in 1997. She devoted her life to her family.

While in Minneapolis she belonged to the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and was active in PEO and Tri-T. While in Fergus Falls she was involved in First Lutheran Church, the Lake Region Hospital Auxiliary and PEO.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, reading, playing bridge and especially spending time with family at Otter Tail Lake in the summers.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and her dear sister, Katherine Raiter.

She is survived by her sons, Larry (Jeanette) of Fergus Falls, and Stephen (Marie “Mia”) of Golden Valley; grandchildren: Jennifer (Mattheu) Perron of Arden Hills, and Matthew (Julie) Dorn of Minneapolis; great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Christian Stock, and Andrew Perron of Arden Hills, and Ava and Liam Dorn of Minneapolis; a brother-in-law, Richard Raiter; and nieces: Martha (Dave) Frampton, Susan (Bill) Metzger, and Debbie (Al) Colussy.

Memorials are preferred to the Lake Region Hospital Foundation or to the donor’s choice.
Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls
