Philip D. Holman, 94, of Battle Lake, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.
He was born Dec. 1, 1912, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Rev. Hans J. and Leona (Hookland) Holman. He grew up in Chicago where at attended elementary and secondary school. He later attended Pleasant View Luther Jr. College in Illinois and the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.
On March 14, 1942, he married Beatrice Ranstad of Battle Lake at Kenosha, Wis. He was a veteran of World War II with service in the European Theatre. Following several years in the hotel and restaurant business in the Battle Lake area, he joined the State Health Department as a regional supervisor in the section of hotels, resorts and restaurants. He retired as chief of that section in 1975 after 27 years of service.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Battle Lake, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and various environmental health groups.
He is survived by two brothers, Harvey Holman of Wyoming, Minn., and Kingsley D. Holman of Bloomington; niece, Karen Sherblons; nephews: David Holman, Craig Holman and Dirk Holman; and grandnephews: Dirk, Jr, Isaac and Blake Holman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice in July 1973.
In accordance with his expressed wishes, there will be no funeral or visitation.
