Elmer Juleen Berg, 80, of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at the Short Term Stay Unit of the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls.
He was born Oct. 25, 1926, in Brooten, Minn., the son of Albert A. and Inga Marie (Ronholdt) Berg. He attended grade school in Breckenridge and high school in Wahpeton. He also attended the State School of Science in Wahpeton for Welding and Fergus Falls Junior College.
Elmer married JoAnn Ferris on Aug. 28, 1955, in Underwood. He worked at the Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center, starting as an aide in 1951, and transferred to the Rehab Department in 1954. He retired as a senior rehab therapist on June 31, 1987.
He was a member of the Human Rights Commission and a lifetime member of the Elks where he enjoyed being an Elks clown in many local parades. He was on the board at the Senior Citizens Center and the YMCA. He also was a Hospice volunteer.
Elmer was an avid contester, winning many prizes including trips and cars. He was also an avid collector of coins, antique toys and Avon. He liked going trapping for fur animals. He enjoyed going out to eat and visiting with family and friends. Elmer liked to put on his captain’s hat and give pontoon rides. He especially liked fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mayme; and a brother, Eldon.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; children: Vicki (David) Russell, David (Judy) Berg, and Patricia (Tim) Beaudoin; grandchildren: Andrew and Nathan Russell, and Ellie Robak; step-grandchildren, Matt and Joe Beaudoin; sister, LaVonne (Dan) Kloos; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials are preferred to the Zion Lutheran Church and Lakeland Hospice.
Service: 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls
