Doris Hollands, 85, of Wahpeton and formerly of Dwight, N.D., died Dec. 25, 2006, at St. Catherine’s Living Center, Wahpeton. She was the mother of the Rev. Sandy Hollands of Fergus Falls.

She was born March 17, 1921, in Dwight, where she also grew up and attended grade school. She furthered her education in Wahpeton where she attended high school. Doris then worked for Swift & Company in Breckenridge.

On April 12, 1941, Doris was married to George A. Hollands at Breckenridge Lutheran Church. They made their home in Wahpeton and later moved to Dwight where they lived most of their married life. Doris worked at the Carl Jensen Creamery. George preceded her in death on March 26, 2003.

Doris was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church and Aagoth Circle, was a Sunday school teacher and served on the church council and cemetery board. She was also a member of the Wahpeton Eagles Auxiliary Drill Team and served as a 4-H leader.

She enjoyed the Minnesota Twins, Golden Gloves boxing and the Minnesota Vikings. She wrote poetry and could recite many poems. She also enjoyed attending horse shows and was extremely interested in the NASA space program. Doris always enjoyed the fact that she was born on St. Patrick’s Day and was extremely proud of her Norwegian ancestry. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Gary Hollands of Dwight, N.D.; two daughters, the Rev. Sandy Hollands of Fergus Falls, and Judi Mikkelson of Breckenridge; five grandchildren: Tara (Glenn) Klostreich, Trista Mikkelson, Tertia (Kyle) Christensen, Ty (Stefani) Mikkelson and Spencer Hollands; six great-grandchildren: Seth Klostreich, Cole Praus, Connor and Zackary Willprecht, Addie Christensen and Zane Mikkelson; many nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Iola Anderson and Ella Larson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Clara Olson; her husband, George A. Hollands; and two brothers, Clyde and Gaylord.

Visitation: Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church, Dwight, N.D.
