Donell McDonell

Donell McDonell, 83, of Clara City, died Monday, April 7, 2008, at the Clara City Care Center after an 11-month battle with pulmonary lung disease.
Donell J. McDonell was born May 4, 1924, in Friberg Township in Otter Tail County, the son of Allen and Rose (McManus) McDonell. He graduated from Fergus Falls High School.
During his 83 years of life, Don was an adventurer. He owned a Coast-to-Coast Hardware Store in Iowa, served as an Air Force mechanic in Tacoma Wash., sold seed corn for Northrup Seeds in Mississippi and Alabama, “gophered” on an ore ship from Duluth to the St. Lawrence Seaway, bartended in Mac's Place (his parent's Clara City pub) and sold hardware for FOK Hardware for more than 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters: Marjorie McDonell and Mary Smith.
Survivors include a nephew, Terry (Linda) Smith of Benson; and two nieces, Allyn (Vic) Kuhnau of Alexandria and Germaine Smith of Minneapolis; and a special cousin, Gert Priebe of Clara City; great-nephews and nieces: Steve Smith, Stacie Lienemann, Corey Kuhnau, Amy Kuhnau, Tony Kuhnau, Mandy Kuhnau and Emily Kuhnau.
His love of conversation and passion for travel will be greatly missed.

Service: 10:30 a.m. Today at St. Clara Catholic Church, Clara City
