Kenneth Wahlstrom, 87, Erhard, MN
Kenneth Wahlstrom, 87, of Erhard, died Sunday, April 20, 2008, at Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls.
Kenneth Wahlstrom was born Oct. 10, 1920, in Rothsay, the son of Melvin and Anna (Kron) Wahlstrom. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942, and served during World War II in Italy, a country that held a special place in his life. He served as a mess sergeant and was honorably discharged in December 1945.
On March 29, 1943, he married Clarice Ruud and after the war he farmed in Erhards Grove Township until retiring in the early 1990s.
Kenneth was a member of Pelican Rapids VFW Post 5252 and he served on the following boards: Erhard Elevator Board, Erhard Creamery Board, Erhards Grove Township Board and Bagstevold Lutheran Church Board.
Music was special to Kenneth. He played a harmonica and enjoyed playing for audiences in his younger years and “jamming” with Delores Peterson toward the end of his life.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clarice; parents, Melvin and Anna; and three brothers, Harold, Wallace and Duane.
Kenneth is survived by his five children, Carol (Jim) Sagerhorn, Henning, Larry (Connie) Wahlstrom, Fergus Falls, Dale (Diane) Wahlstrom, Plymouth, Linda (Arvid) Rensvold, Hendrum, and Donald (Tammy) Wahlstrom, Erhard; nine grandchildren, Sherry (Ron) Milligan, Jeffrey (Shelly) Sagerhorn, Kyle (Katherine) Wahlstrom, Kirk (Martha) Wahlstrom, Jessica Wahlstrom, Lindsey Wahlstrom, Jennifer Novotny, Erin Novotny and Cody Wahlstrom; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; one brother-in-law, James (Anna Mae) Ruud, Pelican Rapids; and one sister-in-law, Arlene Wahlstrom, Pelican Rapids.
Memorials preferred to Grace Lutheran Church Building Fund.
Visitation: Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 2 p.m. Friday, at Grace Lutheran Church, Erhard
Clergy: Revs. Mark Brickzin and Todd Hylden
Burial: Bagstevold Cemetery, Erhard, with military honors provided by V.F.W. Post 5252 and American Legion 17, Pelican Rapids
