Shelda Stiel

Shelda Stiel, 64, of Benson, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at Swift County Benson Hospital.
Shelda Ann Murlaine Stiel was born July 1, 1943, in Benson, the daughter of Carl H. and Esther E. (Platow) Thielke.
She grew up and attended school in rural Clontarf. She graduated from Benson High School with the Class of 1961.
On June 12, 1965, Shelda married Charles Stiel at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson. This union was blessed with nine children. Together, Shelda and Charles were able to share in 38 years of marriage. She worked for more than 23 years at Prairie Five Community Action in Benson.
Shelda was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and the Benson Sports Boosters. She was active in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. She was an honorary member of the NDSCS Athletic Hall of Fame. Among the things she enjoyed were watching sports, especially the Benson Braves. She loved to attend her children and grandchildren’s many sporting and school events. She enjoyed playing pinochle, flower gardening, baking, and playing nickel slots.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Charles in 2003; her parents, Carl and Esther and a brother, LaVaughn Thielke.
Shelda is survived by six sons, David Stiel of Barton, N.D., Michael Stiel of Eagan, Daniel Stiel of Benson, Timothy (Kari) Stiel of Minot, N.D., Tony (Shana) Stiel of Hinckley, and Thomas (Stephannie) Stiel of West Fargo; three daughters, Debbie (Tim Ness) Stiel of Fergus Falls, Melissa (Scott) Paul of Fargo, and Chelsea (David Hanson) Stiel of Benson; 16 grandchildren, Joshua and Courtney Stiel; Sarah and Bryce Barsness; Alison, Jaxon, and Jordyn Paul; Tiffany O’Brien, Kassie Schnaar, and Danielle Stiel; Maddison Stiel, Lane, and MacKenzie Banister; Griffin Stiel; and Matthew and Abigail Stiel; two brothers: Virgil (Iola) Thielke of Benson and Delroy (Jane) Thielke of Clontarf; one sister-in-law, Eyvonne Thielke of Hancock; and nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation: Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m., at the church and one hour prior to the service the church
Service: 11 a.m. Monday, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Benson
