Alex Klimp, 88,, Henning, MN
Alex Klimp, 88 of Henning, died Thursday Jan. 3, 2008, at TriCounty Hospital in Wadena.
Alex Wilburn Klimp was born Feb. 12, 1919, on his family’s farmstead in Leaf Mountain Township in Otter Tail County, the son of John and Mary (Larson) Klimp. He was confirmed and baptized at Leaf Mountain Lutheran Church.
He grew up on the farm where he helped his family with the farming. He attended School District 176 through the eighth grade. His first job was road work for Otter Tail County.
One year he went with Shorty Magnuson and a friend to Ketchikan, Alaska, where they bought an old fishing boat and caught salmon. He worked for 13 seasons on the ore boats on the Great Lakes. He then worked for the Great Northern Railroad, now Burlington Northern Railroad, for 15 years. He retired at the age of 65.
Alex loved hunting, fishing and trapping. He spent a lot of time hunting with his cousins, Floyd and Daniel.
Alex lived on the farm along with his sister, Selma and her five sons, Clifford, Clayton, Curtis, Craig and Charles. He was like a father to the boys.
The last couple of years he lived at the Willow Creek Retirement Center in Henning. He still drove to the farm each week to feed the birds and squirrels.
He is survived, missed, and loved by his sister, Tillie Nelson of Battle Lake; nephews, Clifford Magnuson, Detroit Lakes, Clayton Magnuson, Clitherall, Curtis Magnuson, St. Cloud, Craig Magnuson, Fergus Falls, Charles (Karen) Magnuson, Chaska, and Donald (Diana) Magnuson, Henning; and many great-nephews and nieces.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, at Leaf Mountain Lutheran Church, rural Clitherall,
