Elvin Aasness, 91, Formerly of Fergus Falls, MN

Elvin Aasness

Elvin Aasness, 91, of Spicer, formerly of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at his daughter’s home in Albert Lea.

Elvin Irie Aasness was born at his family's farm home in Bradford Township near Doran, to Eline (Skrove) and Ole Aasness on July 24, 1916. He was the youngest of 11 children. Elvin was born into a family of Norwegian immigrants from the Trondelag area of central Norway. He was baptized and confirmed at Stiklestad Lutheran Church in rural Doran. He attended a country school for elementary education and graduated from Campbell High School in 1935.

After high school he farmed and then decided to pursue a different venture — he went into business with his brother, Ted, and built homes in Portland, Oregon and several in Fergus Falls, including his own.

He married Alice Laura Hegstad on June 29, 1948, in Powers Lake, N.D. To this union two daughters were born.

The family resided in Fergus Falls from 1948 to 1959. In the summer of 1959, they moved to a farm near Doran, where Elvin farmed for several years. In 1985, they moved back to Fergus Falls. His beloved wife, Alice, became ill with cancer and died in 1993.

In 1994, he moved to Spicer and married Alvina Lindquist.

Elvin enjoyed woodworking and made many wood crafts for gifts and craft sales. He was a very devoted and loving husband and father. First and foremost was his love of God and devotion to living a Christ-centered life.

He is survived by wife, Alvina, of Spicer; daughters Marie Aasness Davis of Albert Lea, and Karen (Larry) Lindquist of Spicer; grandchildren, Elena (Jeff) Pohl, Joel Davis, Laura Davis, Sara Lindquist, Amy Lindquist, Kevin Lindquist, Anna Lindquist; a great-granddaughter, Jade Lindquist; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents Ole and Eline Aasness; a sister, Mary Aasness, in infancy; sisters, Magna Buness, Martha Buness, Cornelia Floen and Esther Walvatne; brothers Milton, Orwell, Joseph, Ninerd and Theodore; wife, Alice Laura Aasness.
