Kathleen Island, 86, Barrett, MN
Kathleen (Mrs. Lloyd) Island, 86, Barrett, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at the Barrett Care Center.
Kathleen Henrietta (Huse) Island was born on April 17, 1921, near Dalton, to Clifford and Miranda (Dybdahl) Huse. She attended school at District 7 in Tumuli Township, attended one year of high school in St. Paul, and graduated from Fergus Falls High School.
On Dec. 7, 1939, she married Lloyd Island in Minneapolis, with the Rev. Claus Morgan officiating.
The couple farmed in Lawrence Township in Grant County from 1940 to 1969, when their home burned. They lived with Lloyd’s brother, Clifford, until 1976, when they bought a mobile home and moved it to a country lot north of Elbow Lake.
Kathleen moved to the Barrett Care Center in August 2006, and Lloyd joined her in December of 2006.
Lloyd and Kathleen spent many winters in Brownsville, Texas, and enjoyed traveling locally. As a young couple, they would spend many evenings dancing.
In the later years, Lloyd and Kathleen still enjoyed attending social activities, which included the many threshing bees in the area, and family gatherings. Kathleen tended to her flower garden and raspberry patch, and they enjoyed going out to eat.
Survivors include her husband, Lloyd of Barrett; a brother Neuman (Harriette) Huse of Ashby; a sister-in-law, Joyce Huse of Fergus Falls; and several nieces and nephews.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Forrest Huse.
