Darrell Meis

Darrell Duane Meis, 74, of Fergus Falls, died Friday Jan. 25, 2008, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo.
He was born Sept. 28, 1933, at Wheaton, the son of Theodore “Dick” and Lilian (Fisher) Meis. The family moved to the Battle Lake area in 1934, and to Western Township near Fergus Falls in 1940.
He was confirmed at Immanual Lutheran Church in Western Township. Darrell attended country school District 252, and graduated from West Central School of Agriculture in Morris in 1951.
He entered the U.S. Army in January of 1954, serving during the Korean War through January of 1956.
On March 14, 1959, he married Irene Erlandson at Aastad Lutheran Church in rural Fergus Falls.
He farmed in Western Township from 1957 to 1985. He then worked at Con Agra Flour Mill from 1985 to 1990, and was janitor at the Eagles Club from 1991 until 2008.
Darrell was a member of the Eagles, American Legion, and Lake Region Pioneer Threshermans Association.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and a brother-in-law, Merle Erlandson.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Irene of Fergus Falls; his children, Les (Judy) Meis of Fergus Falls, and their children Darrick and Ashley (Jason) Laffen, Donnie Meis of Fergus Falls, Duane (Nina) Meis of Moorhead, and their children Ryan, Katie and Kelsey, and Lynn (Angus) Harris and their children Zachary, Alex and Spencer; his brother, Robert (Barb) Meis of Fergus Falls; a sister-in-law, Janis Erlandson of Fergus Falls; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation: Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 2 p.m. Friday, at Aastad Lutheran Church, rural Fergus Falls
