Anne Stenerson

Anne O. Stenerson, 96, of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls.
Anne O. Loken was born Sept. 13, 1911 in Carlisle, the daughter of Peter and Christine (Jacobson) Loken. She was baptized and confirmed in Norwegian at Hedemarken Lutheran Church in rural Carlisle. She attended eight grades of school at Carlisle and Crookston Ag School.
After her schooling, she worked as a waitress in Chicago, Ill. Upon returning to Minnesota, she resided in the Kirkbride Tower of the Regional Treatment Center in Fergus Falls where she was employed as a maid for Dr. Patterson, the medical director of the Center.
On Aug. 27, 1939, she married Vernon Stenerson at the Loken farm. Anne and Vernon farmed the Stenerson homestead near Dalton prior to moving to the Carlisle community in 1947. In 1949, they purchased the farm near Hedemarken Church, where they lived until 1994, when they moved to Fergus Falls. Anne and Vernon enjoyed many winters with friends in Arizona.
Anne was a nurturing mother, gardener, cook, seamstress and quilter. She was a leader in the community, being a charter board member of the Fergus Falls YMCA. She was active in 4-H, the church, PTA, and the Carlisle Farmers Club. In 1995 they were recognized as the University of Minnesota Farm Family of the Year.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Vernon, in 1999; her parents; and her siblings.
Anne is survived by four daughters: Darlene (Paul) Johnson of Fergus Falls, Jeanne (Roger) Kube of Wendell, Kathy Stenerson (Louis Davis) of Oregon and Yvonne Hanley of Pickerel Lake; one son, Steve (Diane) Stenerson of Rothsay; her nine grandchildren: Brenda (Chris) Daniels, Brad (Kim) Johnson, Mark (Katie) Johnson, Barbara Lowell (Paul Barbieri), Eric (Christine) Carlson, Heidi (Dan) DiGiovine, Tony (Charlie) Tysver, Levi Stenerson, and Katy Stenerson; 12 great-grandchildren: Blaine and Brooke Johnson, Morgan and Emma Daniels, Theo and Sophia Johnson, Eli and Julia Barbieri, Max and Joran Carlson, Dante DiGiovine, and Savannah Tysver; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorials are preferred to the Fergus Falls YMCA or the Hedemarken Cemetery Fund.
Visitation: Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., with prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, at Hedemarken Lutheran Church, rural Carlisle
